The Man-Eating Sarracenian (人喰いサラセニアン, Hitokui Sarasenian), is the fourth episode of the original Kamen Rider series.

Synopsis[]

On a trip to a botanical garden a girl is kidnapped by a human plant leaving her younger brother scared and alone. Fortunately for him Takeshi Hongo is willing to take his case and rescue his sister from the clutches of the evil Shocker organization.

Plot[]

A girl, Yukie, is visiting the botanical gardens with her little brother, Kenji, when the huge ‘King Sarracenia’ plant suddenly transforms into a humanoid monster. The creature immediately kidnaps Yukie, dragging the young woman underground with its vines as the boy looks on in horror.

Later, Hiromi and Ruriko discover Kenji wandering the greenhouse grounds in tears. Unable to persuade the employees to take the boy seriously, Ruriko takes him to Takeshi, who immediately suspects the involvement of Shocker. Troubled, Takeshi and the group escort the crying boy home.

Finding Yukie’s apartment empty, Takeshi clasps Kenji’s hands and pledges to find his sister. But his heartfelt promise backfires when his enhanced strength bruises the boy’s fingers. Struck by the horror of Shocker’s alterations to his body, Takeshi storms out but is filled with renewed purpose once Kenji offers up his treasured model airplane as a sign of faith in Takeshi’s promise.

At the greenhouse, Takeshi finds no sign of Yukie nor the monstrous plant, but his search is soon interrupted by knife-wielding Shocker goons. Narrowly blocking a knife throw with Kenji’s model plane, Takeshi is forced to pursue the escaping troopers by bike. After transforming into the Kamen Rider, Takeshi catches up to the baddies and handily defeats them, managing to capture one for interrogation.

Restrained in Sarracenia’s underground base, Yukie has been selected for conversion into a cyborg. Sarracenia, hearing of the capture of his ‘number three’, leaves Yukie in his men’s care and sets out to eliminate his failed soldier. But before the men can begin the process, an alarm rings out! Takeshi has found the hidden base and battles his way inside to rescue Yukie.

Back at the apartment, Hiromi and Rukio try to keep a watchful eye on the captured Number Three, but are spooked by Sarracenia lurking outside the window. The plant monster breaks into the apartment and devours his soldier, but just before Sarracenia can kill the good guys, Takeshi returns as the Kamen Rider to defend them. Sarracenia and Takeshi take the battle outside, the Kamen Rider first dispatching Sarracenia’s goons before using Sarracenia’s own vine whip to fling the monster over his head and finally finishing him with a Rider kick.

With Sarracenia defeated and Kenji reunited with his sister, the boy thanks Takeshi for honoring his promise, and remarks how similar Takeshi is to Kamen Rider.
